What is Deep Freeze (why you shouldn't work on C drive)

The TAFE machines go into Deep Freeze each time they are turned off. This means that they revert to their original state. ANY data that has been saved on C drive is wiped. This includes YOUR stuff so protect your assignments and work by backing up to F drive or your own external drive/memory.

How can I get a copy of Visual Studio 2008 for home study?

Microsoft provide express editions of the tools contained within the Visual Studio 2008 suite.

Certificate 4 Programming students should download Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.

Diploma students should download Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition.

Which drive can I run a Visual Studio Project from?

When you are using the TAFE machines, you may run a VS project from C, F or your own external drive/memory stick.

Keep in mind - if you are working from C drive and your machine crashes, you will lose all of your work.

Is F drive a safe place for my work?

F drive is a partition on the local machine which is not affected by Deep Freeze. It is a safe place to back up your work.

Keep in mind, however, that any other student accessing that machine can see your files.
